|EU supported films compete for awards at the Berlinale|
|The Berlin International Film Festival (Berlinale) opened its doors on February 11th with the participation of 20 EU supported films, 5 of which are shortlisted for the Golden and Silver Bears. The Berlinale also includes a showcase event presenting projects funded by the Creative Europe MEDIA programme and the European Film Forum with discussions between EU policymakers and the audiovisual industry. Commissioner Oettinger will announce events to mark the 25th anniversary of the MEDIA programme.|

|Europe’s emergency number 112 known by half of Europeans : EC acts to inform young people|
|11 February is European 112 Day, a day aimed at raising public awareness of Europe’s emergency number, 112. This year in August will be 25 years since 112 number was introduced, yet a survey shows that only half (48%) of EU citizens could spontaneously identify 112 as the number that allows them to call the police, fire brigade or medical services anywhere in the EU at no cost.|

|Today, millions of people in more than 100 countries in the EU and across the world are celebrating Safer Internet Day, to promote the safer and responsible use of technology among children and young people. From Iceland to Madagascar, from Uruguay to Kazakhstan, internet users of all ages, teachers, parents, policy makers and industry are joining in to play their part for a better internet.|
