Commission welcomes political agreement on new EU regulation for electronic ID and trust services
Vice-President Neelie Kroes and Commissioner Michel Barnier welcomed Member States’ endorsement of a «Draft regulation on electronic identification and trust services for electronic transactions» in the internal market. The Regulation will enable, for example, students to enroll at a foreign university online; citizens to fill on-line tax returns in another EU country; and businesses to participate electronically in public calls for tenders across the EU.

Neelie Kroes welcomes political agreement on EU rules to slash broadband installation costs
Vice President Neelie Kroes welcomed Member States’ endorsement of the draft EU Directive on broadband cost reduction. Civil engineering, such as the digging up of roads to lay down fibre broadband, accounts for up to 80% of the cost of deploying high-speed networks and the Commission’s proposal aimed to save companies a staggering EUR 40 – 60 billion.

Future Internet Assembly – FIA 2014
FIA Athens 2014 will focus on reshaping the Future Internet infrastructure for innovation. The programme features keynotes from the public and private domains in a high-profile plenary as well as in nine parallel sessions. FIA Athens will also showcase a wide range of EU project demonstrations and posters. Prior to the event, thirteen pre-FIA workshops will also take place and a 5G-Public Private Partnership event will be organised on the last day.
