(26 November 2013) The European Commission has formally requested the Austrian telecoms regulator (TKK) to withdraw or amend its proposal for regulating broadband wholesale access, including the fees which the dominant operator, A1TA, can charge other operators who want to sell broadband services based on A1TA’s network.

(26 November 2013) At a conference hosted by the European Commission, city leaders, CEOs and civil society leaders discussed the actions outlined in the «Smart Cities Strategic Implementation Plan» and how to put them into practice. The Commission announced that it will launch an ‘Invitation for Smart City and Community Commitments’ in spring 2014 to mobilise work on the action plan’s priorities. The plan is part of Europe’s fifth «Innovation Partnership».

As the European co-legislators are considering the proposal of the European Commission concerning the Single Market in telecoms, the European Competitive Telecommunications Association’s annual conference will explore some of the key assumptions and elements of the proposal as well as the most important business and regulatory trends in the European telecommunications market.  In a series of keynote speeches and panels, high-level policy makers and industry leaders will debate key policy questions related to net-neutrality, data protection, media convergence, competition and business models in the fixed market, the correlation between regulation, investments and innovation, the review of relevant markets, the state of the sector, market structure and the question of consolidation as well as spectrum harmonisation and roaming.
