Commission awards prizes to best eHealth SMEs
(14 May 2013) European Commission Vice-President Neelie Kroes has awarded prizes to eHealth SMEs from Finland, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Switzerland and United Kingdom as part of eHealth Week 2013 in Dublin, Ireland.

Kroes & Borg welcome recognition of the contribution ICT can make in reforming health systems
(13 May 2013) A declaration by the Irish Presidency of the Council of the EU committing Member States to developing eHealth ecosystems that could contribute to the reform of health systems has been welcomed by European Commission Vice-President for the Digital Agenda Neelie Kroes and Health Commissioner Tonio Borg. The Irish Presidency presented the Declaration at the Ministerial eHealth High Level Conference in Dublin on May 13th. eHealth ecosystems pool the resources of health and social care providers, industry, research institutions, authorities and end users throughout Europe to accelerate the development and adoption of innovative solutions such as eHealth to specific problems in health and social care.

This event offers an opportunity to explore and discuss how Public Administrations can use semantic technologies to make information exchange more efficient and effective, allowing them to operate at lower costs and provide better services. The conference programme addresses topics such as: Basic data for public services; Open Standards for eGovernment; Data interoperability in the Cloud and on the World-Wide Web; Open Government Data and interoperability; Putting interoperability solutions in a regional or local context. It is organised by the ISA Programme of the European Commission. Attendance is free of charge but registration is required and places are limited.

International Conference on Policy Making 2.0

This conference will explore the emerging technologies and trends that are changing the way policy is made. Policy-making 2.0 refers to a blend of emerging and fast developing technologies that enable better, more timely and more participated decision-making in government. The aim of the conference is to cross-fertilize projects to support community building and to learn from each other. Over these two days many topics will be discussed including: open and big data, visual analytics, modelling and simulation, collaborative governance and crowdsourcing, serious gaming, and opinion mining. There will also be a chance to submit an application for the Policy 2.0 prize. It’s goal is to raise awareness and consolidate the community about a new set of tools to support policy making, such as open and big data, visualization, opinion mining, collaborative governance, modeling and simulation, serious gaming. The event is free and open to anyone with an interest in 21st century policy making.

Award-winning EU project redefines the Internet strengthening users’ online safety while boosting broadband speeds
(13 May 2013) An EU funded project that paves the way to an innovative Internet architecture meeting current traffic and growing security demands has just been awarded a prize at the Future Internet Assembly (FIA) in Dublin. The PURSUIT project received the Future Internet Award for its outstanding contribution to redefining the existing Internet design in order to ensure users’ stronger control over their data while enhancing broadband connections.

Commission plans guide through global internet policy labyrinth
(13 May 2013) The Commission today unveiled plans for the Global Internet Policy Observatory (GIPO), an online platform to improve knowledge of and participation of all stakeholders across the world in debates and decisions on Internet policies. GIPO will be developed by the Commission and a core alliance of countries and Non Governmental Organisations involved in Internet governance. Brazil, the African Union, Switzerland, the Association for Progressive Communication, Diplo Foundation and the Internet Society have agreed to cooperate or have expressed their interest to be involved in the project.
