Wanted: more women in digital jobs. European Commission supports global Girls in ICT Day
(25 April 2013) How can we encourage more young female tech talent into digital jobs? The European Commission, European Parliament and the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) are coming together on Girls in ICT Day (25 April) to find new ways of encouraging girls to take up careers in ICT and to show them the opportunities on offer.

Telecoms: Commission asks The Netherlands to ensure independence of Dutch regulator
(25 April 2013) The European Commission is taking action to ensure the Dutch telecoms regulator, ACM, retains full independence in the application of EU telecoms rules to television broadcasting transmission. The 2009 EU Regulatory Framework for telecoms requires that national regulators have full independence in how they apply market regulation.

SoundCloud and SwiftKey win European Web Entrepreneur of the Year awards
(24 April 2013) Europe’s best digital entrepreneurs are under the spotlight tonight with the presentation of the «Europioneer awards» in Amsterdam. Alexander Ljung & Eric Wahlforss of SoundCloud are European Entrepreneurs of the Year while Jon Reynolds of SwiftKey is Young European Entrepreneur of the Year (under 30 years). The European Commission sponsors the awards as part of Startup Europe, the Commission’s six-part plan to accelerate, connect and celebrate local entrepreneurship ecosystems in Europe, so that tech start-ups not only start in Europe, but stay in Europe.

ICT 2013 Student ICT research project competition
(22 April 2013) Individual students or small groups (max 5) can submit ICT research projects to showcase at the ICT 2013 event in Vilnius. The projects can be submited in 8 categories, which reflect the orientations of the ICT research in the next European research framework programme, Horizon 2020. Deadline Wednesday 5th June 2013, 16:00 CET.

Apply to become student / young ambassador at ICT 2013
(22 April 2013) The young ambassadors will contribute to the event in different roles: Session reporters will be following selected conference sessions and write summaries of the highlights, which will be published on the blog; Conference highlighters will follow the conference and report online; Exhibition watchers will highlight the most attractive exhibits; Social media managers will help to coordinate the information and content produced by different ambassadors. Deadline Wednesday 5th June 2013, 16:00 CET.
