Dear WIP members, friends and colleagues
This is a notice to say we have finally published our first report on South African Internet use which is available at http://www.networksociety.co.za/Read+the+Report for reading or download. It is to the best of our knowledge the first detailed report of Internet usage in a Sub Saharan African country based on a nationally representative sample. It has received a considerable amount of media coverage here in the last week, on radio, television and the press. The main focus of attention has been on a) the number of users (34% of adults), b) the profile of users (especially the high proportion of users (42%) on low incomes) and c) our finding that more people go online daily than read a newspaper daily.
Nest year I will start working on a comparative study of the 12 African countries that we have similar data for.
If you do read it, I would welcome any feedback.
Regards
Indra
