The Program and the Position:
Young, vibrant, growing M.A. program (www.gonzaga.edu/coml)
seeks a communication scholar interested in communication theory and praxis who
has excellent teaching skills. In its eighth year, the Program has attracted
more than 500 students who take courses either on campus or on-line. The
program has a strong interest in global and ethical aspects of communication.
Teaching experience and clear plan of research desirable. Ph.D.
required in Communication or closely related discipline (e.g., , journalism,
communication studies, organizational communication). This position seeks a
strong generalist who can teach a variety of our courses, including Theorizing
Communication and Communication Thesis or Project. The person will also help us
achieve our Department and University Mission. We are seeking a dynamic
individual who can both understand the balance of the curriculum and help to
guide its growth and quality. The program’s emphasis is on global and ethical
aspects of communication from a media and culture or media ecologist
perspective. Teaching responsibilities would focus on COML 504, COML 508,
COML 509, COML 517, COML 680, and will include campus as well as online
classes.
Required Qualifications:
1) earned doctorate in communication or closely related discipline (e.g., journalism, communication studies,
organizational communication);
2) evidence of excellent teaching in both campus and online courses; and
3) record of sustained scholarly engagement in the field of communication and leadership studies
Responsibilities:
1) teaching campus-based and online graduate-level courses in the Department;
2) advising campus and online students;
3) serving on Department, School, and University committees as needed; and
4) maintaining an active research agenda in the field of communication and leadership studies.
