Hi and best wishes. As you may have read, today (Jan 13, 2012) marks the time that India has been free from new polio cases for one full year. In 1985 there were 150,000 new cases of polio in India. Communication strategies have been central elements of the strategy that has achieved this progress.
If you are in a media agency reporting on this important development and require background information, analysis and insight to inform that reporting; and/or
If you are engaged in health and development action on other health issues and wish to review the India polio eradication strategy in order to learn knowledge and insights that could possibly inform your work
…then we wanted to draw your attention to a summary and presentation that outlines one highly informed perspective on the strategy that achieved these polio results in India.
Ellyn Ogden, the Worldwide Polio Eradication Coordinator at USAID, has put together an in-depth slide presentation that outlines the polio communication strategy in India. This slide presentation (and a shorter summary) can be viewed at http://www.comminit.com/polio/content/reaching-every-child-communication-polio-eradication-india
It is also possible to download the presentation as a pdf at http://www.comminit.com/files/impact_reaching_every_child_north_india.pdf
There is a polio communication site at http://comminit.com/polio/category/sites/global/polio with further knowledge.
And we would be happy to try and link you to Ellyn or any of the other key polio communication people in the partner agencies – WHO, UNICEF, CDC, Gates, Rotary – if that would be helpful.
The best way to engage them is to insert a comment, question or critical observation on this pagehttp://comminit.com/polio/category/sites/global/polio – just scroll down to below the summary for the Comments box and enter your contribution. You do not need to log in!
Please do rate the knowledge in this summary – how helpful is it to your work? Just click on 1, 2 ,3 ,4 or 5 stars.
And, please do «Like» this page to your Facebook page and «tweet» this page to your Twitter account to share with your networks. See the easy functionality on http://www.comminit.com/polio/content/reaching-every-child-communication-polio-eradication-india
Many congratulations to everyone involved in the polio eradication effort in India over the past 20 years – an important milestone.
Best wishes – Warren
