De Castro and his New School colleague and Council on Hemispheric Affairs Senior Fellow, Prof. Nicholas Birns. Mario Vargas Llosa has been a contentious figure for decades, with his maverick political typology transforming him into a hugely controversial figure. His orientation has proved polarizing and has made him the foe of socialist and populist thinking in his own country, as well as abroad. This book provides masterful insights as well as a highly informed scrutiny of many of the sources for his provocative political thought.
