1.       Media That Matters Film Festival
Seeking entries of social-issue short films on any social or environmental issue. Winning films will have a New York City, NY, United States (US), premier, and there will be an awards ceremony and industry networking events. Films will take part in the Media That Matters multi-platform campaign with DVD distribution, broadcasts, streaming, and international screenings.

2.       CNN MultiChoice African Journalist Awards
Inviting African professional journalists and freelancers working on the continent for media organisations to submit entries in print, television, internet, radio, or photographic media. There are 17 prizes – one prize for each of the 16 categories and a prize for the overall winner who will have the opportunity to participate in the CNN Journalism Fellowship at CNN Headquarters in Atlanta, Georgia, US.

3.      NASW Science in Society Journalism Awards
Offering awards for outstanding investigative or interpretive reporting about the sciences and their impact for good and bad – especially the kind of critical, probing article that would not receive an award from an interest group. Separate cash prizes of US$2,500 will be awarded for writing judged best in each of these 3 categories: books, periodicals (newspaper and magazine), and electronic media (radio, television, and the internet).

4.      Best Practices that Incorporate a Gender Equality Perspective in Health of Adolescents and Youth
Acknowledging experiences in the Americas that incorporate gender equality in health into work with adolescents and youth. The objective of the competition is to identify the health experiences that better address the differential needs and opportunities of men and women in health – a gender-sensitive approach.

5.      The Grantham Prize
Inviting entries for the annual US$75,000 Grantham Prize for Excellence in Reporting on the Environment by media in the US and Canada. The purpose of the prize is to encourage outstanding coverage of the environment, to recognise reporting that has the potential to bring about constructive change, and to broadly disseminate the prize-winning story to increase public awareness and understanding of issues focusing on the environment.
