ICCC X – First International Conference on Computational Creativity
7 January 2010 – 9 January 2010  Lisbon, Portugal
Although it seems clear that creativity plays an important role in developing intelligent computational systems, it is less clear how to model, simulate, or evaluate creativity in such systems. In other words, it is often easier to recognize the presence and effect of creativity than to describe or prescribe it. The purpose of this conference is to facilitate the exchange of ideas on the topic of computational creativity in a cross-disciplinary setting.

The conference will integrate the best of European web/mobile based technologies, and compare, contrast and contextualize them with leading examples of Health 2.0 from North America. It will show what works in the context of Europe’s evolving health care systems, whether there are commonalities across European systems that can lead to economies of scale and what the «boundary-less» online world means for consumers and physicians working in distinct health care systems.

CALL FOR TENDERS
The economic and societal impact future Internet technologies, services and application will enable in Europe and elsewhere – A quantitative study 2015-2020
(Deadline: 12/10/2009) The study will identify the potential economic and social impact of a large-scale public-private partnership on the FUTURE INTERNET, eventually a joint undertaking in the meaning of article 171 of the treaty, with focus areas in smart energy grids, smart environmental information systems, smart systems for transportation and mobility, and smart healthcare systems. The study shall provide the necessary quantitative and qualitative assessment as a pre-condition for the Commission services to draw-up a legal proposal for the establishment of a joint technology initiative on the FUTURE INTERNET.

The Open Days are designed to bring together political representatives, decision-makers, experts and practitioners of regional policy as well as stakeholders from the banking and business sectors, civil society organisations, academia, EU institutions and the media to discuss the common challenges facing European regions and cities, and to discuss possible solutions. The event also provides a platform for capacity-building for those involved in implementing EU cohesion policy and in managing EU funds, as well as facilitating cooperation and networking among regions and cities on best practice in regional development. This year the general motto is ‘Global Challenges, European Responses’.

With progressive ageing of the European and worldwide population a new strategic thinking is required in business and beyond. Tackling the needs of an older population means new ways of thinking, social innovation and taking a holistic approach to ageing: at work, at home and in the community. The aim of the workshop is to identify how ICT Industry and businesses are or will be creating a new ageing vision within their own companies, with their products and services.

This gender workshop aims to take stock of the progress made and present new initiatives and actions. Brainstorming sessions are also organised to work on a new agenda for Women in ICT. Commissioner Reding will launch the Directory of Women in ICT, an interactive platform bringing together relevant initiatives and information. The Commissioner will also present the new signatories of The Code of Best Practices for women in ICT. Participation in the Workshop is free of charge but there is a limited number of places.
