Call for papers 

Digital Media and Digital Cultures in Latin America: The politics of transformation and change

The media sectors in most Latin American countries are flourishing and at the same time evolving in ways that are dramatically changing the larger media landscape. These changes are affecting profoundly the way audiences relate and consume media and are reshaping cultures all over the continent. The emergence of new media services based on digital technologies has coincide with a period of economic and political transformations in which forces of liberalization, deregulation, privatization are encountering stiff resistance from governments and social movements that have shifted in recent years to the left. Therefore, the International Journal of Media & Cultural Politics is calling for papers for its special edition on Latin America’s digital media and cultures. The deadline for final submissions is the 20 of December 2009. Articles can be submitted to any of the three guest editors on Latin America’s digital media and cultures, with special emphasis but not exclusively in one of the following areas: 

• Media, development policies and the digital divide in Latin America
• Online news in Latin America
• Digital and visual cultures in Latin America
• Political economy of the digital media in Latin America
• Diasporas and digital media in Latin America
• Latino culture and digital media in the US and Canada.
• Politics and digital media in Latin America
• Public Service Broadcast and digital technology in Latin America
• Digital technology and the politics of resistance.
• Related case studies

Articles will be considered and will be reviewed in English, Spanish and Portuguese, but it will be the responsibility of each author to produce a final version in English. All articles will need to comply with the Notes for Contributors of the Journal. The special issue will be published in autumn of 2010.
