Symantec’s MessageLabs says that spam levels are up nearly 5 percent since December 2008 thanks to the efficiency of existing botnets and the launch of some new ones. MessageLabs’ most recent Intelligence Report said that in January 2009, the global ratio of spam in e-mail traffic from new and previously unknown bad sources was 74.6 percent (one in 1.92 e-mails). Valencia, CA-based College of the Canyons has selected Enterasys equipment to provide secure connectivity for 3,000 wired and wireless devices serving 24,000 students, faculty, and staff. In the process, the private military college said in a statement, it eliminated 1,500 vulnerabilities in its IT infrastructure. The school uses the software to scan for and prioritize network threats, validate policy levels, and discover software vulnerabilities on its servers and operating systems. More
