Dear Friend,
No more than 30 days are left, before Madrid will turn into the World capital of free press. The Spanish Association of Periodical Publications’ Editors (AEEPP, acronym formed from its full name in Spanish, www.aeepp.com) realized for the first time in 2004 in Valencia, Spain, the first Congress explicitly dedicated to this segment of publications – and since then, we have been celebrating every two years in different places in Spain. In the last Congress, celebrated in Benidorm, set as a goal to organize in 2008 the 1. WORLD CONGRESS OF FREE PRESS (www.congresomundialeditores.org ), and in this occasion we chose Madrid as seat of the Congress, which will take place on the 30th September, 1st and 2nd October. And we made it. It will be the first time in history that the most prominent responsible of the greatest phenomena of free press in the world are gathered to discuss the present, and especially the future of this kind of publications – making it THE event of the year at a global level, not only for the speakers, but also for the editors representing more than 20 countries.
We have been going through the editorial universe of free press, to invite the most skilled speakers and the editors of greatest success, to tell us their experiences and their future plans, managing to have a group of 55 people speaking in different groups, coming from Holland, Sweden, Italy, Dominican Republic, United States, United Kingdom, Germany, Portugal, Norway, Iceland, Turkey, Slovenia, France, etc. It will be an outstandingly practical happening, where the singular cases of success in the world will be presented to be of use to all the participants, as example and management formulas. Being a Congress of Free Press means that magazines and tabloids of non-daily periodical publications will be there numerously, with speeches expressly designed for this kind of newspapers.
During the Congress, will be developed other happening, which at the end of the Congress itself will doubtless have a global repercussion as the:
– THE MANIFESTO OF MADRID
A public statement will be issued to the society about the principles and values that govern the free press. All participants will vote and sing and it will be formalized. This declaration will also be recorded in an engraved brass plaque that will be placed in Bosque Sur, one of the main parks in Madrid.
– INTERNATIONAL FEDERATION OF FREE PRESS AND PUBLICATIONS
During the Conference, the International Federation of Free Press and Publications will be established and its head office settled in Madrid. The Federation will protect the rights of the publishing sector and will represent it in all organizations and international institutions. It will also be the responsible for the II World Congress of Free Press in 2010.
– INTERNATIONAL EXHIBITION OF PUBLICATIONS
For the first time, an International Exhibition of Publications will be carried out: all periodical publications issued in the World will be displayed. This is the reason why we kindly ask for you to send us all publications that you consider should be part of the exhibition.
– PUBLICATIONS’ TRADE MARKET
During the whole development of the congress, there will be a room available for all the editors to realize every kind of trading in publications, magazines, franchise, search of partners or projects, etc.
– GALA DINNER
On October 1st, a Gala Dinner will take place to pay tribute to all participants and guests. The Dinner will be held in the central arcaded courtyard of the Casa de Correos (old headquarters of the National Postal Service of Spain), nowadays seat of the head government of the Community of Madrid, at Puerta del Sol.
