Academics have long talked of the «academic conversation.» Now, Web 2.0 has called our bluff. We live in the midst of a non-stop world conversation. But, are conversational skills (in writing) important and, if so, how do we teach them?

Microsoft Joins Open Source Census Group
Microsoft has joined the Open Source Census as a sponsor, according to an announcement issued by OpenLogic, which founded the group. The Open Source Census project tracks the use of open source software by the business community. Survey results are updated on an ongoing basis at the group’s Web site.
Del Mar College To Deploy Web-based Self Service
Del Mar College has selected Datatel Colleague to create a Web-based self-service capability for constituents and enhanced campus management tools for employees. The Datatel technology solution replaces a legacy administration system.
Fresno Pacific Uses Online Tool To Expand Continuing Education Outreach
Fresno Pacific University has selected Orion, the Intelliworks relationship management suite, to manage its marketing and outreach activity for the Office of Continuing Education. The school plans to use the solution, which is delivered as a service online, to collect inquiries from the Web, track communications with students, and conduct follow-up e-mail surveys.
iLinc Web Conferencing Tool Updated, Adds ‘Green Meter’
iLinc released a new version of its Web conferencing tool, iLinc 10, which bolsters session management and adds a «green meter.» The green meter shows cost savings, carbon emissions, and total distance not traveled by using Web conferencing versus in-person meetings. Administrators can also customize several variables in the meter to match their organization’s specific policies.
