Cambridge Installs Panasus Parallel Storage System for Research Support
The University of Cambridge’s High Performance Computing Service (HPCS) has deployed a Panasas parallel storage system to support work being done by university researchers. Cambridge has deployed the Panasas ActiveStore AS5000 solution with the PanFS parallel file system.
Del Mar College To Deploy Web-based Self Service
Del Mar College has selected Datatel Colleague to create a Web-based self-service capability for constituents and enhanced campus management tools for employees. The Datatel technology solution replaces a legacy administration system.
RC1 for Hyper-V Now Available for Download
IT pros wanting to try out the latest Microsoft Hyper-V virtualization technology can now get the Release Candidate 1 (RC1) version via Windows Update. This optional version, which contains minor improvements, was first announced by Microsoft last month.
Intel Denies Holding Back USB 3.0
Rumors that Intel is not releasing the Universal Serial Bus 3.0 specification to its technology partners in a timely manner have prompted a rebuttal. The allegation really concerns the Intel host controller specification used by chip manufacturers, explained Nick Knupffer, an Intel employee.
Korea’s Pohang U Accelerates and Secures SAP and Web Apps with F5 System
Korea’s Pohang University of Science and Technology (POSTECH) will be optimizing its application delivery infrastructure by implementing the BIG-IP Local Traffic Manager (LTM) with Application Security Manager from F5 Networks. The installation will focus on upgrading availability and delivery of SAP applications, Web mail and the school’s Web pages.
2008 Vernier/NSTA Technology Awards Open
The 2008 Vernier/National Science Teachers Association (NSTA) Technology Award program is now open. Each year, the program awards cash, technology, and travel funds for science teachers who demonstrate innovation in inquiry-based learning activities involving data collection.
Desire2Learn Pays Off Blackboard, Migrates All U.S. Clients to Learning Environment 8.3
Learning management system provider Desire2Learn Thursday said that it’s finished migrating all of its clients in the United States to Learning Environment version 8.3. The company also said it’s paid off Blackboard more than $3 million for the judgment Blackboard won in court in February. But the story doesn’t end there.
EC Rep Talks Open Standards, Knocks Microsoft
A speech given Tuesday by Neelie Kroes, the European commissioner for competition, skewered Microsoft without mentioning the company by name. In the speech, Kroes makes reference to Microsoft’s outlaw status in failing to meet the European Commission’s competition guidelines.
