18,524 Evidence & Power Online Roundtable: Stellenbosch University x Bournemouth University

The South African Research Chair in Science Communication (Stellenbosch University) and the Centre for Science, Health, and Data Communication Research (Bournemouth University) are pleased to be hosting the Evidence & Power Online Roundtable Series. This series aims to foster insightful discussions on the intricate relationship between science, communication, and society.

At the heart of this roundtable series lies the exploration of the multifaceted connections between data, methodology, and the exercise of scientific authority. Experts from diverse disciplines seek to delve into the ways in which scientific research has influenced policymaking, official communication, popular culture, and public discourse. Equally important is the consideration of how communication practices and structures shape the production and interpretation of scientific evidence.

Our first roundtable will take place on 15 June 2023 at 2PM (SAST), 1PM (BST) and 9AM (EST). Our speakers include:

  • Thema Monroe-White: Academic Director of the Campbell Center for Data Analytics at Berry College and expert in racial equity and STEM,
  • Laila Asmal: Associate Professor of Psychiatry at Stellenbosch University, and expert in neuropsychiatry and applied epidemiology,
  • Linsey McGoey: Professor of Sociology at University of Essex and expert in ‘Ignorance Studies’,
