CALL FOR PAPERS
McLUHAN: SOCIAL MEDIA
BETWEEN FAITH AND CULTURE
International Conference at St. Michael’s College in the University of Toronto
Date of conference: September 21 – 22, 2012.
Opening Keynote speaker: Prof. Elena Lamberti
Closing keynote speaker: Dr. Eric McLuhan
The purpose of this conference is to consider the work of Marshall McLuhan vis-à-vis religious thought. Marshall McLuhan was a devoted Roman Catholic who embraced and studied diverse cultures and religions in formulating his theory of social media. In this conference we plan to revisit some well-known aspects of his work, viewing them in the context of the relationship between faith and culture, and to call attention to less familiar aspects of his thought that are directly focused on these themes.
We are soliciting proposals for papers of 20 to 30 minutes long. A selection of the papers presented at the conference will be collected, edited and published by St. Michael’s College through an associated publisher. We ask that you email your abstract of not more than 300 words and a biographical profile also of not more than 300 words to principal.usmc@utoronto.ca.
Deadline for submission of abstracts: August 7, 2012
