The Department of Journalism and Media Studies at Rutgers seeks part-time lecturers for the following two courses for the Fall 2012 semester:

News Media and Government in America
Tuesdays 6:10 PM – 9:00 PM

200 level course, open to majors and nonmajors.

Description:  The course examines relationship between media and institutions, and the processes through which people and societies make political choices. It aims to build a foundation of issues and development in the relationship between political actors and the press.  Students gain the skills and knowledge needed to critically evaluate and contextualize contemporary issues.

Media Ethics and Law

Tuesdays 3:55 PM – 6:55 PM

400-level required course for majors (Junior and Senior Status).

Description: This course examines legal issues and ethical problems confronting journalists. It relies on case studies to analyze actual situations in which reporters, photojournalists, editors, news directors, public relations and advertising practitioners have found themselves facing tough decisions.  Students should be able to determine how to approach professional work ethically and develop an ethical decision-making process that can be applied in any given situation.

Cap: 45

Salary for this appointment will be $4,500 per course.

Instructor will be responsible for organizing the course, providing all instruction, holding office hours, and grading the students in the course.
