8825 Media Ecology, First sounds

Recorded sound is the first medium of storage of the Information Age and merits greater attention as we are in reasonable historical proximity to learn many lessons from the birth of this medium.

I hope some day scientists and engineers can replay the recordings of Leon Scott’s phonautograph.

Scott purportedly brought his phonautograph to the White House and recorded then President Abraham Lincoln.

Charles Cros, who described a sound recording and playback device–the
Paleophone–before Edison’s phonograph, would certainly appreciate these
paleo-djs,
