Honduras’ Deadly Prison Fire: History Repeats Itself with Tragic and Fateful Dividends
The horrific fire that engulfed a Honduran prison last Tuesday received international attention for the magnitude of its tragedy. Sadly, however, it was only the latest episode in a long line of disasters that have plagued Central American prisons in recent years. It is also a symptom to larger social crises of government corruption, rampant rates of violence, and a general sense of lawlesness that make up everyday life for most Hondurans.
