BLCU International Forum 2012
Media and Gender Studies: History and Theory
Invitation Letter
Studies on the relationship between media and gender have been highly valued since the establishment of CCCS and Screen and have been involved in the discussion of many controversial issues, thus greatly broadening the scope of cultural studies. Presently, such kind of studies has made some novel and major development based on its predecessor. It covers not only the reaction to the life style of the postmodern era and ethnicity problems around world, but also brings some new gender characteristics under the influence of new media into its horizon. The BLCU International Cultural Studies Forum themed on Media and Gender Studies: History and Theory will be held in Beijing of China in the fall of 2012 with the aim to reviewing its history, discussing related theories and envisioning its future development trend. Angela McRobbie, Professor of Goldsmiths, University of London and ex-core member of CCCS is going to deliver a keynote speech at the Forum in answer to our invitation.
BLCU International Forum is an annual event for international academic exchange initiated by Chinese scholars. It was started in 2005 and has been held four times since. Consequently, it has evolved into a rather influential international event and is regarded as an important platform for international cultural studies. In a bid to make the Forum a more success, we are expecting to invite some overseas scholars and Chinese scholars to make speech and participate in discussion. In consideration of your devotion and contribution to cultural studies, we would like to invite you to attend this Forum and deliver a important speech.
The forum will be held from the 22nd to the 23rd of September, 2012, and registration will be open on the 21st of September.
