International Cooperation
Funding in all DFG programmes
International research collaborations may be funded either as part of individual projects or in the context of coordinated programmes (Collaborative Research Centres, Research Training Groups, Research Units, Priority Programmes, etc.).
Individual Projects and Coordinated Programmes
Scientists and researchers in Germany can apply for funding for research projects carried out in cooperation with colleagues (cooperation partners) from abroad, either as part of the Individual Grants Programme or in connection with Coordinated Programmes. This funding is partly covered by agreements that the DFG has entered into with its more than 50 partner organisations in Europe and worldwide.
Information on the Individual Grants Programme and the DFG’s Coordinated Programmes (Priority Programmes, Research Units, Collaborative Research Centres and Transregional Collaborative Research Centres, Research Training Groups, etc.) may be found under Research Funding:
Preparatory Measures
In addition to providing general research funding, the International Affairs Division also provides funding for preparatory measures that facilitate personal contact.
Visits by Highly Qualified International Researchers to German Universities
The DFG’s Mercator Programme for visiting professorships enables German research universities to invite highly qualified scientists and academics who work abroad to spend a period of time at one of their departments.
