Dear colleague,
We would like to ask for your collaboration in the dissemination of the announcement of thePresident Néstor Kirchner Fellowship, whose objective is to support the training of young leaders from South America. This Fellowship has been inspired by the recognition of the legacy and achievements of the late President of Argentina Nestor Kirchner (2003-2007), and his work as the first Secretary General of UNASUR (2010).
The PNK Fellowship is organized by The New School through its Observatory on Latin America (OLA) in New York, together with the Universidad Nacional de San Martín in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
The Fellowship
The fellowship consists of a two-week stay at The New School in New York, during which the Fellow will present his/her work to students and faculty of The New School, will meet with political and civil society leaders, and will take part in various other activities such as visits to local government offices and multinational organizations, as well as tour museums, and public and university libraries.
This call for applications will award two fellowships:
- Fellowship 1 will be awarded to an Argentine citizen, and will take place November 6-20, 2011.
- Fellowship 2 will be awarded to citizens from another country of South America, excluding Argentina, and will take place February 26-March 11, 2012.
Applicants’ profile
Applicants must be in the early stages of their careers which must include activities in both of the following fields:
- In the academic field they must have either completed a postgraduate degree (master or doctorate) within the past fifteen years or are currently working towards a postgraduate degree;
- In the political/civil society field, they must be either currently working or have previously worked in public service organizations of the state at the national, provincial, or municipal levels, or in a registered non-governmental association or organizations (NGOs).
Substantive research areas related to South America
Eligible applicants should be working in one or more of the following fields:
1. International Economic Relations; 2. Democracy and Media; 3. Poverty and Social Policy; 4. Role of the State; 5. Regional Cooperation and Integration; 6. Inequality and Social Justice; 7. Democracy and Human Rights; 8. Promotion of Democratic Culture and Education; 9. National Economic Management; 10. Cities, Design, and Social Development.
Applicants must have verifiable experience of a minimum of 4 years and maximum of 15 years in political/civil society fields, and are required to have English proficiency.
The deadline to submit the application is June 30, 2011.
