Internships at COHA: Summer, 2011
COHA is in the final phases of forming its incoming summer 2011 internship group. As of now, 21 successful applicants hailing from around the country and the world will be in attendance. Eventually, there will be 28 graduate and undergraduate students working in its Washington office and more in the field. Successful candidates possess exceptional research and writing skills, a strong ability with foreign languages, and an ability to function in a fast-paced office where collaboration rather than competition flourishes. COHA interns have every opportunity to appear on national public media programs and international political panels, attend seminars and Congressional Hearings, and are treated as full-fledged professionals by their senior colleagues.
COHA is one of the most respected Washington institutions in the field of U.S.-Latin American relations, although it frequently finds itself challenging the policies of the administration-of-the-day. COHA interns work directly under the organization’s long-time director, Larry Birns, who is highly regarded in Washington and beyond for his knowledge of inter-American relations and his commitment to tutoring COHA’s large number of interns. The organization honors its history of upholding the natural interests of the entire hemisphere, not just those of the U.S., and is committed to a respectful and balanced approach to hemispheric relations.
