CALL FOR TENDERS
Study on «Media policy aspects of advertising, labelling and public information» – SMART 2009/0002.
(Deadline: 01/09/2009) Calls for advertising restrictions and labelling within adverts are made at both national and European level in a number of sectors. This study is a first attempt to examine the impact of such restrictions on the media from a horizontal perspective, rather than on a piecemeal, sector-by sector basis. It is intended to provide the necessary expertise on media-related issues to support policy making in other fields such as public health, environment and energy. The study has three research agendas, the financial impact of advertising restrictions on the media, the effectiveness of such measures and alternative strategies for communicating fuel and CO2 emission information to the public.

REPORTS AND STUDIES
eHealth Benchmarking (Study Phase II)
The study aimed to collate and analyse existing eHealth monitoring and benchmarking sources (in EU27, Iceland, Norway, Canada and the United States), in order to identify good practices in data gathering and to develop an indicator framework for an EU-wide eHealth benchmarking approach. It found 94 sources of eHealth benchmarking data (with more than 4,300 eHealth-related indicators), identified 12 good practice cases and filled 31 country briefs that describe the situation in each of the surveyed countries. The study proposes an indicator framework that covers the most relevant actors, activities and applications in the area of eHealth.

AUDIOVISUAL
Radio tags and invisible ink to rescue European forests
From the pine trees in southern Europe to the spruce forests near the Arctic Circle, about 25 million cubic meters of wood are wasted every year in Europe.
But now researchers are looking at new ways of making each felled tree traceable. One method uses tags containing a Radio Frequency Identification transponder.
Another method uses special ink.
Tracability saves time and improves efficiency, meaning wood is best used and more forests are preserved. It also improves efficiency meaning that consumer prices are lower.
